Dual/Transfer Program

Description

This program was designed due to the extremely high demand for those doulas who are already trained or certified through another nationally recognized doula certification organization but who wish to become a CAPPA Canada certified postpartum doula without potentially having to attend another doula training workshop.

If you are already certified with another nationally recognized doula certification organization and would like to join the CAPPA Canada team, please contact the CAPPA Canada National Head Office.

For the Dual/Tranfer Program, Postpartum Doulas in-training have one (1) years to complete and submit their certification requirements after purchasing the Certification Packet.

TRACK 1: Dual/Transfer Program Requirements

What you need to do to get started:

1. Write a letter of intent to the CAPPA Canada Executive Directors and the CAPPA Canada Postpartum Doula Director explaining why you wish to become a CAPPA Canada certified postpartum doula.

2. Provide proof of attendance at a doula training workshop within the last (1) year, taught by another nationally recognized doula certification organization.

3. Prepare a list of childbirth resources available in your area and submit it with the letter of intent.

Once accepted in the program, purchase the Dual/Transfer Postpartum Doula Certification Package ($160.00), available at our store (a proof of purchase is required when submitting your certification requirements). 2. Be a member of CAPPA Canada ($55.00 for a 1 year membership; rebates available for multi-year memberships). All CAPPA Canada certified professionals are required to maintain continuous membership. A lapse in your CAPPA Canada membership will result in a $50.00 reinstatement fee and all overdue membership fees must be paid. CAPPA Canada certified professionals who let their membership lapse more than 120 days must pay a $100.00 reinstatement fee plus all past due membership fees.

3.   Choose a book from each category on the required reading list and three (3) additional books from the CAPPA CPD required reading list (available here) for a total of seven (7) books. (use Form C: Confirmation of required readings, available in the CAPPA Canada Certification Packet).

4. Submit proof of Infant and Child CPR certification through an accredited certification program.

5. Submit two letters of recommendation from a certified labour doula, certified childbirth educator, certified lactation educator, certified postpartum doula, certified antepartum doula, midwife, obstetrician, or lactation consultant (IBCLC).

6. Submit two letters of recommendation and evaluations from past postpartum doula clients with a continuum of care of no less than one (1) week each and a minimum of 20 hours for each (use Form A: Postpartum Doula Evaluation Form: Clients, available in the CAPPA Canada Certification Packet).

7. Maintain a resource manual with information on local support.

8. Submit a 300-500 word essay on CAPPA Canada's postpartum doula scope of practice.

9. Pass the test on postpartum and childbirth topics included in your packet. The test is an open book test and the answer sheet must be submitted with your final certification. An 85% passing grade is required.

10. Sign and agree to the CAPPA Code of Conduct, Philosophy, Scope of Practice and Grievance Policy.

11. Submit the necessary fees for certification ($75.00*).

* Certification Processing Fee is due with the submission of completed Certification Application.

In the event a candidate fails to pass certification requirements, the candidate has up to one (1) year to complete the failed portions of the certification requirements. There will be no further processing fees. The candidate who exceeds one (1) year to complete the aforementioned portions of certification may be asked to re-enter the certification program and may incur additional fees.

Note: CAPPA Canada encourages its birth professional in-training to submit their certification requirements electronically. If this is not a possibility, the paperwork must be submitted by mail and NO ORIGINALS should be sent, only photocopies.

Certification Results Policy
It will take approximately 4-6 weeks for CAPPA Canada to grade and process your certification materials once received. CAPPA Canada receives a high volume of certification requests. CAPPA Canada will contact you by letter or email within that time frame once your application has been reviewed.
