Overview of Childbirth Education:
Pregnancy is a dynamic time of learning for the woman and her family. They are potentially more receptive to information that will enhance their unborn child's health and their own. Prenatal classes must not only focus on dealing with labour and birth, but also focus on healthy living, including but not limited to: nutrition, exercise, informed decision making, communication, smoking, drug, abuse, relationship issues and parenting skills. Prenatal classes bring families together and encourage experience sharing and healthy choices. If we teach them their options and provide them with current, research-based information, just maybe we can improve the health of families in the childbirth year and beyond. Childbirth Education is constantly changing; class members also bring their own unique needs to the class.
