Become a CAPPA Trainer

CAPPA is one the most respected and sought after certifications available for childbirth professionals. CAPPA trainings are in high demand.

CAPPA only allows up to 5 trainers per Province at this time for each program.

CAPPA will help you promote your trainings through our web site and our newsletter.

CAPPA is now accepting applications for trainers in the following programs:

Labour Doula

Childbirth Educator

Postpartum Doula

Lactation Educator

 

 

 

 

CAPPA Childbirth Education Trainer Requirements

Requirements to become a childbirth education trainer:


Show certification as a childbirth educator with at least two (2) years of experience, having taught at least ten (10) complete class series totaling 120 hours;

Must be from a state/province currently without a CAPPA CBE Trainer (large states or provinces may have more than one trainer);

Submit resume/CV and three (3) professional references;

Be a member of CAPPA;

Sign the CAPPA questionnaire;

Believe and promote the CAPPA Philosophy;

Promote CAPPA in the trainings, give a brochure to each registrant, and make certification packets available;

Sign the CAPPA Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice and Grievance Policy;

Create a course curriculum, including properly written objectives, teaching strategies used and time allotments (based on CAPPA's Required Topics Lists for CBE Trainings). Submit any additional handouts anticipated for use in the training. The candidate does not need to submit a manual since each approved trainer will be expected to use the CAPPA CBE Manual;

Submit a videotape (DVD or digital format) of at least 6 hours of your training if you currently are a labour doula, postpartum doula or lactation educator trainer or if you train for another organization. If you are not currently a trainer, please submit a video of your childbirth education series;

Optional: observe a CAPPA Childbirth Educator Training Workshop.

In the event that two or more candidates apply for a position in a state/province where only one position is available, each candidate may be asked to supply additional information to the Director(s) of CAPPA Childbirth Educator Program in order for the Director(s) to make a decision.

Labour Doula Trainer Requirements

 

Requirements for Becoming a CAPPA Approved Labour Doula Trainer

Be a member of CAPPA.

Must be from a state/province currently without a CAPPA labour doula Trainer (large states or provinces may have more than one trainer)

Be a labour doula trainer with four years of experience.

If you are not a trainer with experience, you can be selected as a trainer
if you have a minimum of 4 years experience or have assisted with a minimum
of families (amount to be decided by director of program) in the field you
are requesting to be a trainer.

Submit 2 letters of recommendation from other birth professionals or former
employers.

Be familiar with the CAPPA certification programs and philosophy.

Share the CAPPA philosophy.

Submit your resume or CV to CAPPA.

Submit your complete CAPPA questionnaire.

Submit a copy of your class outline and manual or agree to use the CAPPA
manual.

Sign the CAPPA Code of Conduct, Scope of Practice, Philosophy and Grievance
Policy.

Must hold certification in specialty for which you are training.

In the event that two or more candidates apply for a position in a state/province where only one position is available, each candidate may be asked to supply additional information to the Director of CAPPA Labour Doula Program in order for the Director to make a decision.

Postpartum Doula Trainer Requirements

Must be a member of CAPPA in good standing.

Must be from a state/province currently without a CAPPA Postpartum Doula Trainer (large states or provinces may have more than one trainer);

Be a Doula, CBE, or postpartum trainer with four years experience and have served at least 25 families.

If not a trainer with experience, you can be selected as a trainer if you have a minimum of 4 years experience in the field you are requesting to be a trainer.

Current CPR certification

Share the CAPPA philosophy and sign the Code of Conduct, Scope of Practice, and Grievance Policy.

Must hold certification in specialty for which you are training or have equivalent experience. If not certified than you must take the CAPPA postpartum doula test and pass with a 85% or better. (this is at the discretion of the director)

Submit resume or CV for review.

Submit completed CAPPA questionnaire.

Submit copy of your class outline and manual or agree to use the CAPPA manual.

Submit two letters of recommendation from birth professionals.

Submit copies of former training evaluations.

Lactation Educator Trainer Requirements

Must be a member of CAPPA in good standing.

Must be from a state or province currently without a CAPPA CLE Trainer.

The candidate should be a Certified Lactation Educator or Certified
Lactation Consultant. La Leche League leaders are also encouraged to apply,
but may need to supply additional information to the CAPPA Director of
Lactation Education Programs.

The candidate must have a minimum of two years teaching parents about, or
assisting with breastfeeding.

The candidate should be knowledgeable not only about breastfeeding, but
about how to train others on how to teach about breastfeeding.

If already a CAPPA trainer in another program, the trainer must be in good
standing.

Submit your resume or CV to CAPPA.

Submit two letters of recommendation from childbirth professionals.

Submit evaluations from at least two breastfeeding classes.

Complete and submit the CAPPA Questionnaire.

Sign the CAPPA Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice and Grievance Policy.

Create and submit a course curriculum, including properly written
objectives, teaching strategies used and time allotments (based on CAPPA's
Required Topics List for CLE Trainings).

Agree to use the CAPPA Lactation educator manual when teaching CLE training workshops.

In the event that two or more candidates apply for a position in the same
state or province, the candidates may be asked to supply additional
information to CAPPA's Director of Lactation Education Programs in order for
the Director to make a decision.
