Teen Support Certification Program

Nearly one million teen girls get pregnant each year.
Nearly four out of 10 young women get pregnant at least once before they turn 20.
Each year the federal government alone spends about $50 billion to help families that began with a teenage birth.

Expectant teens can present special challenges for a childbirth professionals due to their unique needs. As childbirth professionals, it is our responsibility to be familiar with the unique issues and topics that are pertinent to expectant young families.

The goals of the CAPPA Teen Support Advanced Certification include:

¨ Establish the unique needs of expectant teens
¨ Summarize the vital components of a childbirth education class for teens
¨ Identify various resources available to assist professionals who work with pregnant teens
¨ Understand the conflicts of pregnancy during the adolescent stage of development
¨ Establish the skills necessary to assist pregnant teens

The CAPPA Teen Support Advanced Certification can be obtained through Distance Learning or the Standard Program. Both programs require experience as a childbirth professional. The Distance Learning option also requires the purchase and reading of the CAPPA Teen Support Training Manual.
